El Salvador – Past Grantees
Sara and Joshi of Agrupación Ciudadana por la Despenalización del Aborto Terapéutico, Ético y Eugenésico led the project, “The Fight for our Lives and Health Continues” to carry out advocacy activities with key actors, strengthen the Unión Médica Salvadoreña por la Salud y Vida de las Mujeresas an emerging and credible voice in favor of decriminalization of abortion and create a comprehensive communication campaign that positions the decriminalization of abortion as a critical human rights issue.
Keyla Cáceres and Rodolfo Rivera of Jóvenes Voceras y Voceros en Derechos Sexuales y Derechos Reproductivos led the project, “Young People Defend Sexual and Reproductive Rights and the Reform of Article 133 to Decriminalize Abortion in El Salvador.” This project strengthened the defense skills of the young participants in the organization. They held a national meeting and a forum for youth organizations on the decriminalization of abortion and a comprehensive communication campaign aimed at raising the voices of youth leaders in favor of the decriminalization of abortion.

Guadalupe de Colectiva Amorales led the project “Creation of art and resistance for the health and life of women”. Workshops on sexual and reproductive rights were held for adolescents and young women who work in the Central Market of San Salvador. The participants held two art fairs related to the defense of sexual and reproductive rights, especially the right to decide.

Sara García led Agrupación Ciudadana por el Aborto Terapéutico, Ético y Eugenésico’s project in training members of the Alianza para la Salud y Vida de las mujeres wich implemented a comprehensive communication and advocacy strategy to generate support for favorable reproductive rights legislation and policy.

Keyla Eunice Cáceres De León led the Jóvenes Voceras y Voceros por los Derechos Sexuales y los Derechos Reproductivos project which focused on strengthening the organization’s capacity, and individual youth members’ skills to carry out activism and advocacy that generated support for favorable reproductive rights legislation and policy.

Agrupación Ciudadana consolidated, together with other human rights organizations, the Alliance for Women’s Health and Lives. From this space they implemented an advocacy strategy and a communication campaign in social and traditional media with the objective of raising awareness about reproductive rights among the population.

Asociación Colectiva de Mujeres por el Desarrollo Local increased sexual and reproductive health information for women and girls in five regions of the country through workshops and a social communication strategy.

Jóvenes Voceras y Voceros por los Derechos Sexuales y los Derechos Reproductivos strengthened the knowledge and advocacy skills around sexual and reproductive rights of 25 of their members. Likewise, they coordinated public demonstrations and other outreach activities among young people with the goal of increasing support for sexual and reproductive rights.

Red Nacional de Adolescentes y Jóvenes Positivos trained 29 health professionals with the objective of improving youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services in three health centers. They established agreements with the directors of the three health centers for the adoption of the recommendations that arose from service monitoring as well as a commitment to future collaborations.
